Shutter Count Checker

Upload a recent, unedited photo from your camera to check the shutter actuation count. Essential for evaluating used camera purchases.

Use an unedited image straight from the camera. Edited images may have metadata stripped.

Supported Cameras

Shutter count availability depends on what the manufacturer stores in image metadata:

✓ Usually works
  • Nikon DSLRs (D3-D6, D500, D7xxx, D8xx, etc.)
  • Nikon Z mirrorless
  • Pentax DSLRs
  • Some older Sony cameras
✗ Usually doesn't work
  • Most Canon cameras
  • Newer Sony Alpha (encrypted)
  • Fujifilm
  • Panasonic/Lumix

For cameras that don't store shutter count in images, you'll need manufacturer software or a direct camera connection.

FAQ

Why doesn't my camera's shutter count show up?

Not all cameras write shutter count to image files. Canon notably keeps this data internal on most models. Some manufacturers (like recent Sony) encrypt this information. Try uploading a completely unedited image — editing software often strips metadata.

What's a "good" shutter count for a used camera?

Entry-level DSLRs are rated for ~100,000 actuations, prosumer bodies for ~150,000, and professional cameras for 300,000-500,000. However, many cameras far exceed these ratings. A camera at 50% of its rated life still has plenty of use left.

Is shutter count the only thing that matters?

No! Physical condition, sensor cleanliness, and overall care matter too. A well-maintained camera with high shutter count can be better than an abused low-count body. Shutter count is just one data point.

Is my uploaded image stored?

No. Your image is processed in memory only and immediately discarded. We don't store uploads.
